The Formula SAE Competition is an international collegiate design series competition that sees students design, manufacture, test, race, and manage their very own formula 1 style vehicles. The competition, as well as Canyon Motorsports, welcomes students from all majors and backgrounds. For the 2021-2023 season, the team will be taking a 2-year build plan in an attempt to gain more testing time to ensure that the car is at its best for the competition. Canyon Motorsports will be attending Formula SAE California in June of 2023

Grand Canyon University’s Formula SAE Team was formed in 2018 by several enthusiastic and driven students. With the help of key sponsors and some luck, the team was able to build their first Formula SAE vehicle for competition in Lincoln, Nebraska in June of 2019. To the team’s dismay, electrical troubles marooned the vehicle in the paddock for all of the competition. However, the team was able to compete in all static events and takeaway invaluable information on how to improve for the 2019-2020 season

The 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons were trying for the new Canyon Motorsports team, due to our small size and limited initial resources the effects of COVID-19 had the team restructure and start from scratch. This allowed the team to grow from 26 members to over 80 weekly involved team members, each with their own experiences to aid the team.

As for the upcoming 2021-2023 season, the team is looking forward to improving our design and building upon the strong foundation the first team and starting members left behind. The team has begun to create a strict production schedule to have the vehicle finished by mid-May 2022, allowing for just over a year of testing. This is made possible by all of our sponsors and new team members gained this year alone.
