About
Canyon Motorsport Team at the 2018-2019 Formula SAE Lincoln Competition
GCU Motorsports is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, student-run organization at Grand Canyon University.
The Formula SAE Competition is an international collegiate design series where students design, manufacture, test, race, and manage their own Formula-style vehicles. Both the competition and GCU Motorsports welcome students from all majors and backgrounds. For the 2025 season, the team’s goal is to bring a fully running car to competition—and we’re on track to make that happen.
The team was originally founded in 2018 by a group of passionate and determined students. With support from sponsors and some good fortune, GCU Motorsports completed its first car in time to compete at Formula SAE Lincoln in June 2019. Unfortunately, electrical issues kept the car off track during dynamic events, but the team participated in all static events and walked away with valuable experience.
The 2019–2020 and 2020–2021 seasons brought new challenges. With a small team and limited resources, the effects of COVID-19 forced the group to restructure and essentially start from scratch. That setback turned into an opportunity for growth—GCU Motorsports expanded from 26 members to over 80 students actively involved each week, all bringing different skills and backgrounds to the team.
In recent seasons, the team has focused on refining its design process and building on the strong foundation laid by the original members. A strict production schedule and an emphasis on testing have positioned the team for success this year. Thanks to our dedicated team and the continued support of our sponsors, 2025 is shaping up to be our strongest season yet.
